Construction is underway at North Austin Animal Hospital to refresh and modernize our hospital. We are getting all new lighting, paint, treatment and exam tables, countertops and cabinets. We are also updating our kennels, knocking down some walls, updating our sign, and building two additional exam rooms!

Please pardon our dust over the next few months. We will remain open during the renovations.

If you have any questions, feel free to call us at (512) 459-7676. We look forward to better serving you and your pets with our new-and-improved facility!

North Austin Animal Hospital is proud to support Pets Assisting the Lives of Seniors (PALS), a sub-division of the Meals on Wheels program.

Dr. Chad Harris, DVM with pet dog in the PALS Program

PALS works with the Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation to provide care for pets, such as annual exams, vaccinations, and heartworm and flea prevention. If a pet has an issue that requires more serious veterinary care, the PALS program puts the companion animal on a list based on seriousness and helps these pets as funds become available.

North Austin Animal Hospital has had the pleasure of specifically helping Mojo and Pocket, pets of Dorothy Brown, through this program. Our very own Dr. Harris worked with Mojo and Pocket to give them the veterinary care they needed and even nail trims! He says that working with animals like this is "probably the most rewarding part of [his] job" as many of these pets have not seen a vet in their lifetime before coming to this program.

Did you know that mosquitoes carry heartworms? All it takes is one mosquito to bite your pet to become infected.

heartworm-diagram-dogHere’s the good news about heartworm disease: It's an illness that can be easy and affordable to prevent. The bad news is, if you don't prevent it the right way, your pet is at high risk of getting sick. Heartworm disease is dangerous to your pet and some signs of the illness are tough to spot. Your pet may be acting fine, but they may have so many heartworms inside their body that it can become life threatening.

You may be thinking, "My pet stays indoors, so there's no need for heartworm prevention." But, heartworms are carried by mosquitoes, which can get into anyone's home! One mosquito bite is all that's needed to spread the disease to your furry friend.
